How to use DinoSpace

Everything you can do in the app, in plain words. Nothing here needs an account, an internet connection, or any setting to be turned on first.

starting out

DinoSpace is a pocket encyclopedia with 100 things to explore — 50 prehistoric creatures and 50 wonders of space — plus a sky scanner, quizzes, battles and a drawing studio. Install it, open it, and you can start straight away.

1 Nothing to set up

There is no sign-up, no account and no ads, nothing at all is collected about you, and every screen works with the phone offline.

2 Two optional questions

The app asks for location, so the sky report matches where you are, and camera, for the sky scanner. You can say no to both and everything else carries on.

3 Start anywhere

Tap encyclopedia to look something up, or scan sky on the front page to see what is above you tonight.

getting around

The bar along the bottom of the screen is the whole app. Five tabs, always there:

home

The front page. Two big buttons: scan sky and ask nova.

encyclopedia

All 100 entries, A to Z. Search for one, or show only creatures or only space.

battles

Pick two creatures and see who would win.

saved

Everything you starred, kept in one place.

more

Everything else: quiz, drawing studio, collections and settings.

Swipe left or right to slide between tabs.
Swipe in from the left edge of the screen to go back.
Press the phone's back button to jump straight home.
If you can't find something, it will be on the more grid.

doing things

Look something up

Tap encyclopedia and start typing. The list gets shorter as you type. The All / Dinosaurs / Space buttons show one kind at a time. Tap any row to open it.

Read an entry

Every entry starts with its name, how to say it out loud, and its picture. Then come the numbers — how long, how heavy, how hard it bit and how fast it ran; or for space, what it is, how far away and how big. After that: About, Key features, where it lived and how it behaved, and Fun facts. At the bottom are similar entries and an Ask Nova about this button. Tap the star at the top right to save it.

Keep favourites

Tap the star on any entry. Or open saved and tap the + in the corner — that gives you a list where every tap stars something, so you can add lots at once.

Scan the sky

home → scan sky shows what is up tonight: the moon in its real shape, the next meteor shower, which planets and constellations are out and where to look, and when the sun rises and sets. Tap Scan your sky to open the camera, hold the phone up, and it names what is really above you. view all adds every star name, and the crosshair tells you what it is pointing at.

Ask Nova (AI)

home → ask nova. Nova is an AI chatbot that lives inside the app. Type a question — "how big was a T. rex?" — or tap one of the suggestions. Nova does its thinking on the phone itself, so nothing you type ever leaves the device, and it still answers with no internet at all.

Take a quiz

more → quiz. Pick Dinosaurs, Space or Mixed, slide to how many questions you want (5 to 100), then tap START QUIZ. Every answer is explained, whether you got it right or wrong, and your scores are kept on your profile.

Battle two creatures

The battles tab, or Battle this creature on any entry. Tap each side to choose a creature, then tap battle! The winner comes from size, weight, bite force and speed. Reset lets you pick again.

Draw your own

more → draw entry → Create something new. First you draw: five brushes, an eraser, a fill bucket, a colour mixer, brush sizes, undo and redo. Tap Next to give it a name, stats and facts. Save it, and it becomes a real entry you can battle with.

Browse collections

more → collections. Ready-made lists like Biggest Creatures Ever and Farthest From Earth. Make your own list lets you build one — name it, add any creatures and space objects you like, and it saves as you type.

settings, and making it yours

Settings is at the bottom of the more grid. Tap the You card at the top to see your profile: what you have discovered, your favourites, your drawings, your day streak and your quiz scores.

Appearance Two looks — soft pastel or hand-painted twilight — plus four text sizes, S to XL. Both change everything straight away.
Sound & haptics The little buzz under your finger when you tap. On or off.
Parent mode A grown-up sets a 4-digit PIN, then chooses whether Ask Nova and Scan Sky stay on. Encyclopedia, quizzes, battles and drawing are always on; changing it needs the PIN.
Nova AI Download, pause or remove the optional on-device model. Nova still answers without it.
Reset Clears your progress, favourites and chat. The encyclopedia itself stays.
